Betacam, Betacam SP and Betacam SP-S video format was first produced by Sony at the beginning of the 80's, and superceded professional U-Matic tapes. Betacam SP was rapidly adopted by television studios around the globe and was a very popular and versatile professional video format.

There are two tapes sizes, the smaller ones look like, and are often mistaken for, Betamax tapes. Betacam video cannot be played on Betamax equipment. We have the capacity to play both small and large betacam tape formats

For earlier recordings we use the excellent Sony BVW-22P Betacam deck. For later recordings, we use a Sony UVW1200P deck with an onboard digital time base corrector, producing high-quality MP4 and AVI transfers.

Betacam footage can be supplied as a high-quality AVI file for editing on Windows or Mac systems. This format retains more picture information than a standard viewing copy and is suitable for post-production workflows.

Because AVI files are large, please provide an external hard drive or high-capacity USB drive. We can advise on storage before transfer.
