Optional digital restoration
AI Cine Film Improvements
After your cine film has been carefully digitised, we can use Topaz and DaVinci Resolve to improve the picture frame by frame. This optional service can make ageing 8mm, Super 8, 9.5mm and 16mm film clearer, steadier and more enjoyable to watch.

AI Enhancements
Topaz analyses neighbouring frames rather than treating every image in isolation. Used carefully, it can reduce distracting defects while keeping the result natural.
- Detail and sharpness: improve soft-looking edges and make faces, clothing and scenery easier to see.
- Noise and grain reduction: calm excessive grain, digital noise and compression artefacts without making the film look waxy.
- Upscaling: create a cleaner HD or 4K viewing file from a good-quality cine scan.
- Stabilisation: reduce gate weave, small frame jumps, jitter and unwanted camera shake.
- Motion improvement: reduce motion blur and, where suitable, add intermediate frames for smoother playback.
Each setting is adjusted to the film. Strong processing can create artificial detail or motion artefacts, so we favour a believable family-film look over an over-processed image.
DaVinci Restorations
DaVinci Resolve gives us precise control over the colour and condition of the digitised film. Possible improvements include:
- Colour correction: reduce red, magenta, yellow or blue colour casts caused by fading and storage.
- Exposure and contrast: balance dark and light scenes, lift usable shadow detail and control bright highlights.
- Shot matching: make colour, brightness and saturation more consistent from scene to scene.
- Flicker reduction: lessen rapid brightness changes caused by ageing film or the original camera exposure.
- Dirt and scratch reduction: minimise small dust marks, spots and some scratches that remain after physical film cleaning.
- Framing: straighten, crop and reframe distracting edges where this improves the presentation.
AI cannot recover picture information that was never recorded or has completely faded away. Deep scratches, severe blur and badly over- or under-exposed scenes may only be partly improved.
