MP4 files are designed for convenient playback on televisions, phones and tablets. If you plan to edit, ask for a larger, higher-quality AVI working file.

Editable AVI Files

We produce high-quality AVI computer files from video and camcorder tapes for customers who want to edit their footage.

AVI is our usual editing format because it provides a more substantial working file for popular PC and Mac editing applications. MP4 remains available as a smaller copy for straightforward viewing and sharing.

After the edit is complete, the AVI master can be exported to MP4 or another delivery format for phones, tablets, televisions and online platforms.

Storage for AVI files

AVI files can use several gigabytes per hour, depending on the source and capture settings.

You can supply a new external hard drive or sufficiently large USB device, or we can provide suitable storage for your order.

Please do not use a drive containing important files. We may need to prepare its file system so it can accept individual AVI files larger than 4 GB.

However, these days computer editing is a very simple task that most people can do without any specialist training. The editing programs are simple to use, very intuitive and many of our customers find editing a lot of fun.

Editing with AVI

MP4 is designed mainly for convenient playback and sharing. Re-editing an already compressed MP4 and exporting it again can reduce detail and introduce further compression.

Starting with an AVI working file gives your editing software a stronger source for cuts, colour work and restoration. You can create smaller MP4 viewing copies after the project is finished.
